How to Prepare for Healing and Detox

How do you prepare yourself for healing and detox? This was one of the questions in our recent call for the October group.

The response that came from my husband Pedro, who is an instructor for the Health Educators at Hippocrates Health Institute, that I wanted to share it with you.

It’s easy to focus primarily on the tactical aspects of preparing. Whether you’re doing the 3 week Hippocrates program as this person was, or you are looking to detox at home, the issues are very much the same.

Pedro started with a quote from a gentleman he had recently spoken with. Like many people in this community, he is dealing with a serious health challenge.

His mindset was truly enlightening. Here is my paraphrase of what he said,

Now that the shock has worn off, I’m seeing this that has come into my life as an opportunity to take charge of my life as I haven’t before, as an opportunity to take charge of my health as I haven’t before and to create a better life than I’ve lived up to this point.”

With a mindset like that, you’re going to have an amazing experience when you take the time and effort to cleanse your body. The mind and body are not separate, but one entity. So your mindset is key as you embark on healing yourself.

When you embark on a cleanse, you are putting yourself out there. No matter how much you already may be into raw foods, you are stepping out of your comfort zone when you do the 3 week Hippocrates program.

I have personally met so many raw foodists there who shared with me how far they were from applying the principles for optimal health being taught at Hippocrates Institute. In fact, I had been raw about 2 years before I went, and I had gone back to a standard diet because I wasn’t feeling well – I was missing some very key ingredients.

As you go through a cleanse like the 3 week Hippocrates program, your body will change, your biochemistry, your physiology, your psychology and emotions will all change because you are exposing your body to super nutrition like you’ve never done before – you are fully immersing yourself, not doing a little here and a little there.

Your body reacts quickly. In effect it says, “Aha, now I have the energy, now I have the resources to get rid of this gunk I’ve been carrying around.”

You see, any toxification you have accumulated in your body is stored and set aside until there is enough energy and nutritional support to effect the major work of body cleansing.

When we continue pouring in the wrong foods to our body, we reach a threshold that the body can no longer process through all of it. It doesn’t have the resources in terms of nutrition and energy so it sets it aside.

As your body goes to work on this major overhaul, you will often have detox symptoms of nausea, exhaustion, rashes, runny nose, etc.

This is because in order to rid yourself of this “stuff”, it has to be circulated through the blood to the nearest exit. While it’s circulating is the time that you will not feel well.

As you help yourself to get it out, you will feel better faster. The easiest way I’ve found is to use the biggest organ of elimination, the skin. Make sure you perspire through exercise or the far infrared sauna. If you do this everyday during your cleanse, you will help your body detox much faster and more easily.
