Dr Mercola Says We Need Beef for CLA?

by Hippocrates Health Educator

Dr Mercola, who is popular online claims we need cla (conjugated linoleic acid) that we can only get from grass fed beef. We asked Brian Clement, Director of Hippocrates Institute for his response to this claim.

Listen to the interview for yourself, it’s attached. He laughed, then went on to say that there is quite a debate at best whether we need conjugated linoleic acid – CLA.

And anyway there are many ways we can get it on a vegan diet. He says Dr Mercola is totally wrong on this one.

You can get all the CLA you may need from blue green algae and sea vegetables, both of which are an important part of the Hippocrates diet. These single cells – blue green algae – have everything animal food would have.

He goes on to say that we really need to listen to our intuition and not run after the latest fad out there.

The planet is in trouble in large part because of meat consumption. One thing I wrote about here in the blog is this very point. People are so confused about what are greenhouse gases and what is causing them.

Greenhouse gases trap the heat, causing global warming. The single biggest cause of greenhouse gases is the meat and dairy industry. Al Gore addressed many other causes and left out the one that accounts for more than 50% of the problem. Politics?

So don’t let the pundits confuse you. Saving the planet is just one more of the many benefits of vegetarianism – that and saving your own life so you can live healthy and vital into old age.

The secret to longevity is truly in your lifestyle.

Thanks, Zak. We can get everything we need from plants without any of the harmful substances.

In fact, most people eat meat for protein – I went back to eating meat at one time because a chiropractor I trusted convinced me that I was missing the protein and would be weak and have weak bones over time.

I find the opposite to be true, and agree with Dr. Brian’s contention that meat is not something the human body can digest properly anyway.

What good does it do us if meat has all these elements if we can neither digest nor absorb them?

I love this post. I get this all the time while promoting this lifestyle myself, people think that animal products contain special nutrients not found in plants. In every circumstance it’s not true (except for the case of cholesterol!).
