Hippocrates Florida: Exercise and The Pools

by Hippocrates Health Educator

Hippocrates Florida Institute: lessons from my 3 week stay leading a group. The sixth in a series, this one is about exercise and the pools.

The first five lessons I took away from Hippocrates.com (Hippocrates Health Institute) were: 1. nothing beats the experience in your body of living this way 100% while you are there with all the therapies that are also included. 2. The education from the experts in their respective field – I learned new things from the lectures again this time. 3. The electromagnetic energy therapies that are included - most have been added since my last time there so I researched about each of them. 4. You want to enlist the support of family and friends any time you make a big lifestyle change. The great thing about doing the program is that a tremendous amount of support is built in, not just from the staff, but also the other guests. 5. Emotional healing is a key component in your healing journey. The mind and emotions play a very important role in our lives.

During my 3 weeks at Hippocrates.com (Hippocrates Health Institute) I came to a realization. I don’t mean in my head, that is easy, I mean really becoming aware of what I need.

Living the Hippocrates health lifestyle is not just the food, it’s a lot more: it’s about our minds and it’s about exercise.

I admit it, I love sitting at the computer as I’m doing right now. But I became aware of how different I felt when I unplugged and added a lot of movement to my day.

Resistance training is important, especially if you want to have strong bones as you grow older. I’ve been adding back some of that into my life. I know, still not as much as I need…

At Hippocrates, it was more than this… it was starting the day with a yoga class or my personal favorite – starting the day in the pools. I want to have pools like those here at home some time soon.

One of the therapies I did daily was to get nice and warm in the jaccuzzi and then dunk into the 55 degree chilled pool and stay as long as I could, then repeat this 6 more times. That’s right, I did this 7 times for the entire 3 weeks. It gets your blood going and I felt really good.

The other great pool therapy is to soak in the mineral pool. It has 2,000 pounds of Dead Sea salt and is kept at a comfortable bath tub temperature of 100 degrees. After soaking at least 20 minutes, I would move on to the far infrared sauna. What a great way to sweat and detox!

So while I don’t have those great pools here, I did bring back the lesson that I need to incorporate a lot more exercise into my life. I get up early and take long walks and work out on my pilates bed.

I also added a far infrared sauna here at home. The pools are next!
